Honorable Mention
In Memory of Mr. J A Prufrock
Peter Lucas

The voice that we lend to the choir
Is our voice alone
But he was an advocate of nothing
And had nothing to defend

Intellect without a cause
Passion without companionship
These are the curses of the mediocrity
Who having examined at his leisure,
Found all schools of thought to be empty vessels.
And himself sinking into the fireless futility
Of rain shower reverie.

And it was not worth it,
To have rolled together her questions,
Having already littered the conversation
With soft and intimate suggestions,
Expounded on ideas within ideas
And with an oratory tried to hold off her tears.
If she, in killing a cigarette and one of the many
little affections of the world
Comprehended every word
Affected sympathy
Loved nothing
